Lilac is one of the most beloved and most fleeting flowers of the year. Deeply fragrant, traditionally associated with the first warmth of spring, and highly seasonal — available for only a few weeks in April and early May each year. Allen's Flowers & Plants sources fresh lilac locally when it is in season, bringing this classic bloom to San Diego for as long as the harvest lasts.

About lilac: Lilacs bloom once a year, typically for a three-to-five-week window in mid-spring. California-grown lilacs tend to arrive at florists a few weeks before their East Coast counterparts. The fragrance is iconic — immediately recognizable, nostalgic for anyone who grew up with a lilac bush — and cannot be replicated by any other flower. Fresh-cut lilacs are delicate and have a shorter vase life than roses or orchids (typically 4-7 days with proper care), which is part of why they feel like a special occasion.
Lilac is a popular choice for Mother's Day, spring birthdays, anniversaries, and as a gift for someone who remembers the flower from childhood. It pairs beautifully with garden roses, peonies (which are in season at the same time), and spring greenery.
